The new year can often bring the pressure to hit the ground running. After the chaos of the December rush and Christmas organisation, January can leave us with little energy and lots of catching up to do. In the whirlwind of gym adverts and “new year new me” motivation plastered on every billboard and feed, it can be hard to find the time to breathe.
Whilst we start returning to our routines and set goals for the year ahead, it’s important to find balance and prioritise moments of calm. For me, spending time in nature is how I reset and reconnect.

When I start my day with a walk in my local woods I know the rest of the day will go well. Taking even half an hour in the morning to feel the crunch of leaves or frost under my boots and hear the birds singing their hearts out always leaves me feeling grounded and inspired. Especially if I know I’ll be spending a long time designing at my computer or answering emails, then it’s extra important to take that time to step away from a screen and enjoy the stillness of the trees.

It’s always these moments I take for myself that bring me the most inspiration. I feel so connected to the natural world that I can’t help admiring the natural shapes and varied textures that make up this place we call home.

This is why so many of my designs feature my favourite of nature’s designs, like the oak leaf and sycamore seed. My jewellery is intentionally designed to evoke the sense of calm and connection I feel during these moments. It’s something that’s so important to me, I love that my jewellery can carry this feeling of being in nature into your everyday life - a reminder of the beauty and stillness found outdoors.

Having a piece of art on your finger, or around your neck or wrist can act as a beacon, reminding you to stop and appreciate the small things around us. A way to reconnect with that feeling, even when we’re stuck indoors. In our busy, modern lives, many of us experience symptoms of burn out, exhaustion and stress that come with constantly being on the move.

It’s so important for us to calm our nervous systems and make the time to slow down. There are so many wellness benefits of spending time in nature, you can experience mental clarity, reduced stress and a sense of perspective. Even small moments outdoors can make a big impact on how we feel.

What do you enjoy about being outdoors, and what small ways can you incorporate moments of calm in your routine this January? Whether it’s a woodland walk, a quiet moment in the garden with a cup of tea, or simply watching the birds through your window, I encourage you to find pockets in your day to reconnect. And if you need that extra reminder, perhaps gift yourself or someone you care about with a piece of handcrafted jewellery that holds echoes of a treasured memory outdoors.

My Woodland Series is inspired by my walks amongst the trees, whilst my Garden Series reflects my love for the flowers and fauna that grow in my Herefordshire garden. You can explore my collections online at elizabethterzza.com, sustainably crafted and inspired by nature’s simple details.

This year I hope you can take time to cherish moments of calm, these small, meaningful rituals that are so important in our busy world. Don’t forget to prioritise your own moments of connection with nature and to carry that feeling with you, both through memories, sentimental jewellery, and small steps you can take everyday.
Keep growing,
