Oxidised Jewellery

What makes oxidised jewellery so special?

And why do I oxidise my collections?

While many people love the classic look of polished silver, the oxidised version offers something different - a striking contrast between light and dark that highlights the intricate details of the design.
I love this eye-catching contrast!

There’s something enchanting about the humble acorn. This small, unassuming nut, often overlooked on forest floors, carries within it the potential to grow into a majestic oak tree - a symbol of strength, perseverance, and good fortune. As the saying goes, “Every oak tree started out as a couple of nuts who stood their ground.” This symbolism is at the heart of my acorn jewellery, and I want to share with you an insight into the oxidation process for these little jewels.

How do I achieve this effect?

First, I paint on a sulphur based solution on the areas I want to appear darker, and then the process begins. This process simply speeds up the tarnishing process that the silver would go through naturally in the air over many many years. I then coat the area with a moisturising layer that helps the oxidised layer soak into the silver.

You should never eat an egg with a silver spoon.

Here’s an interesting tidbit for you: have you ever bee told that you shouldn't eat an egg with a silver spoon? The reason? The sulphur in the eggs can tarnish the silver, much like the process I use to oxidise your jewellery. Of course, I wouldn’t recommend trying this at home, but it’s a fascinating reminder of how natural materials interact with each other!

The unique and contrasting look of oxidised silver is so special and I just love it. It’s also very low-maintenance. Unlike gold or polished silver, which can require regular cleaning and polishing to maintain their shine, oxidised jewellery doesn’t need to be polished. Its dark, antique finish makes it a wonderful choice for those who appreciate beauty without the fuss. Oxidised jewellery is also incredibly versatile. It can be dressed up for an event or worn casually every day.

I’m thrilled to announce a limited restock of my oxidised acorn jewellery. These pieces are crafted with recycled silver and feature a soft matte finish that enhances their little details. Each pair is a special piece of nature that you can carry with you, a reminder of the strength and potential that lies within even the smallest of things.
